Remember; the contest was about originality and not about skills alone. The winners caught my eye with a great composition and a good idea to show off. Also only finished artwork were picked.

Oppression by hana-tox
This entry threw me off my chair (no worry, I'm fine and well). Not only by its beauty... but also by its story. Everyone in his or her life feels at least once, this sentiment of oppression which can give a very bad aftertaste of life imprisonment. The way this sentiment is portrayed in this artwork is worthy of a Shakespear; dramatic yet beautiful. I love the fact the artist mixed two poses to make one of a hell combo, creating something emotional and unique. The coloring is powerful in contrasts, showing the dark as the pit of hell and the light as the hope of getting out... reaching the end of a nightmare. The description added by the artist will bring you to another country, a place where wearing a mask is the way to survive.
Go, and take the time to read the true story behind this artwork!

Embers by StarstruckJanna
I have been really impressed by the design of this OC, but even more impressed by the story it tells! The mask becomes part of his personality, adding a fine background to his story. The ripped clothes make us want to know what happened to him... or the others around him. The mystical ambiance offers mystery. Is the sword connected to him? Maybe it's even alive! It is the kind of artwork that leaves us wondering, imagine, just like when we happen to read a great book. On the technical aspect, the details are astonishing and so well done, there is even vintage textures featured on the collar and sleeves. The upside down pose was such a great idea, and a very unique way to use the stock pose. Well done!

Mystery of Starlight by IvieMoon
Magical, beautiful and majestic. These words came out of my minds when I first saw this artwork. Not only it features beautiful watercolor skills, the framing has been cleverly thought and designed. I adore the way the skin has been colored, but also all the little details that were added to the background.. and this, without breaking the simplistic overall style. The fact her face is missing, gives us the opportunity to imagine and wonder who is this glowing lady in the sky. The soft, yet powerful colors really brings us somewhere else... in her world maybe! Wonderful work!
